Blockwerk is visionary, striving from the island of concealed concentration to the mountain of shared disclosure, thirsty for meaningfulness in music, individually seeking out new electronical paths through the same old jungle of timeless music. That's why Blockwerk comes in different colors with lots of different ideas and in lots of different moods.

The new Blockwerk release "Straight Forward" reflects an attitude of urban communication and networks. Blockwerk hooked up with DJs from all over the planet in order to present completely different, yet related styles on a four-track 12” vinyl - properly fit for any wheels of steel –
and a a five-track CD Maxi featuring:
the Blockwerk club-pop-track "Straight Forward" featuring thoughtful vocals by KC on a thriving groove,
followed by a genuine instrumental rework by DJ Erik Sumo (Budapest,HU) featuring a Russian children´s poem presented by Maxim,
a clever minimal technoid remix by Austria´s most renowned DJane Electric Indigo (Vienna,AT),
a fine trance-remix by Brazilian DJ Leo Breanza aka BKR
and last but not least a skillful Re-Toast pon de riddim in a raggamuffin style by DJ Collage (Seattle, US).

History:

Blockwerk momentarily consists of five artists. Blockwerk came to life in about 1992 when a group of visionary music college students started putting their ideas into action.

After their graduation the founders of blockwerk came to Vienna, where new musicians joined in. The superfluity of new urban sounds and the influences of the new crew members had an intensive impact on Blockwerk's musical path. Sounds changed, styles changed and because of Blockwerk's ingenuousness and the fact that every band member came from a quite different musical background, things really started stirring up. And they haven't cooled down since...

The EP From the island to the mountain released on Oddtime Records features the tracks Jah Sunshine (with MC COALMAN), Timeless and Inner Peace

Official distribution partner Soul Seduction

The Blockwerk Sound varies from speedy Electronix and Groove to Drum n Bass and Soul, Reggae, Dub and Dancehall. Musical influences from eastern countries appear frequently. Listening to a Blockwerk live gig is somehow like listening to a skillfully arranged DJ Set, by a DJ who is willing to cross lines.

The band's live performing style is a combination of thoroughly arranged clubmusic, composition and improvisation. Since its foundation Blockwerk has gone through many different musical phases and influences.
